Rosebank has a thriving art scene with a number of galleries and dealers trading in all mediums along the 'art strip' which includes the more established Goodman and Kim Sacks galleries.

Rosebank is outdoors and pedestrian friendly – Due to its compact size, visitors, residents and employees are able to walk the area, enjoying the outdoor atmosphere, en route to their destination.

Growing

Rosebank's infrastructure projects and property developments augur well for the future of the node. Areas located directly around future Gautrain Stations are attracting great interest.

Chance to develop talent

Thomas Nhassavel says he enjoys busking in the Rosebank parking lot: "It gives me a chance to compose my own songs, while being paid. One day, when my songs are ready, I will record them ..." Thomas hails from Mozambique, but plays Zimbabwe style music, as the musos he played with in the past came from Zim.

 

Shoe shine man

Gift Moyo from Marlboro Originals men's clothing store has his shoes carefully polished by Walter Khoza outside The Zone in Rosebank. Gift sits on Walter's special steel chair, which was designed for him by Morlen Nathan of Yodata Electronics. He's been working at shoe shining since 2006, and started in Sandton before coming to Rosebank.

Netcare Rosebank hospital donates trees to the RMD

The Netcare Rosebank Hospital donated three ‘fever trees' to the Rosebank Management District as part of ‘Arbor Day'. The trees were planted early in September on the first island on Bolton Road just off Oxford Road. City Improvement District manager for Rosebank, Jenny Alexander, thanked the Netcare Hospital for their kind gesture. She added "We are thrilled to receive the trees as we are working towards Rosebank becoming the ‘green node' of Gauteng, and introducing a landscaping theme for public spaces which will include the ‘fever tree' as our preferred indigenous tree."

Gautrain Update at Rosebank Station

As at  December 2009 construction of the concourse and roof slabs were both complete, with waterproofing of the roof slab well advanced. Platform structures, brickwork and plastering were all substantially complete and painting and plumbing at both platform and concourse levels are well advanced. Elevators have been positioned within the station box and M&E installations are ongoing.

At the parkade structure, located on corner of Oxford Road and Baker Street, pile caps and foundations are ongoing and columns and beams to the first floor of the parking deck are in progress.

Excavation and lining of the emergency access shaft E5 at Rosebank/ Dunkeld, is completed. Civil works within the shaft, as well as in the safe haven and the adjacent sections of the tunnel, are in progress. Construction of the cut and cover box sections at either end of the station, which link the station box to the tunnels is ongoing.

Book sale at Rosebank library

There will be a book sale at Rosebank Library on Saturday 27 February from 9 to 12.30am. Don’t miss this book sale - the staff have done a sort and put out lots of 'fresh' books!
