Hanneke Benade at Everard

(09 Sep 2010 - 04 Oct 2010)

Photo: Hanneke Benade’s figures now include male characters

Hanneke’s soft pastels are quiet and pensive figurative works, depicted with exquisitely delicate formal skill. Characteristically focusing on women shown in calm, contemplative poses, her figures are bathed in a tranquil light creating a timeless, Baroque-like stillness. They are private scenes with an ethereal mood, inviting the viewer to quietly admire their world of peaceful mediation.

Hanneke’s new show ‘Stage’ at the Everard Read Gallery has a body of work that portrays stage actors which she has posed in different ways, bringing a new thematic approach to her work. As a variation to much of her previous work, the new body of pastels includes male characters.
