The Young Ones at MOMO
(12 Aug 2010 - 06 Sep 2010)
Paul Klee said, “Drawing is like taking a line for a walk”. In her new show, 'The Young Ones', Mackintosh takes clay for a walk. Mackintosh states, “for this exhibition, I wanted to explore the intimacy associated with the process of drawing and painting and building with clay.”
“The exhibition expresses a sentiment, a mood, a sign of a times,” says Mackintosh. “The title of the show was conceived early and I knew I wanted to explore what The Young Ones could possibly represent. I felt that it suggests a feeling, a consciousness, that I couldn’t necessarily put my finger on. The Young Ones also personifies the spirit of an individual or the sentiment of a group.”
Work will include drawings, paintings and hand built ceramic sculptures. Mackintosh chose purposefully to work in a rather non-linear fashion. She did not want to define a predetermined outcome and the tactile materials she chose to work with helped her to do this. “I wanted the show to find its own path, its own voice as I intuitively worked through it. The process is initially rather hands-on and instinctive.”
The exhibition opening is on Thursday 12 August, from 6 to 8pm and the exhibition runs until Monday 6 September. Contact Gallery MOMO on 011 327 3247, or email karen@gallerymomo.com
