Water interruptions

Joburg Water has earmarked R5-billion over the next five years for the programme, to reduce the incidence of pipe bursts and ensure improvements to the level of service, says Baldwin Matsimela, the utility's communication and marketing manager.

Joburg Water will spend R5-billion over the next five years on upgrades. This is a municipal-owned entity, responsible for distributing water and managing sanitation services.

Rosebank and Houghton, in the northeast, have recently experienced water shortages as a result of the upgrades and some complications, including a faulty valve. Nearby areas which were also affected were Ferndale, Strydompark, Fountainbleu, Sandhurst and Wynberg.
